MacOS and Mac OS X Version Code Names: Apple current Mac Operating System originally named as Mac OS till 2012 and later on OS X until 2016. You may have a clear pattern when you look back at the previous iterations of Mac OS. Apple has used public facing code names for Mac OS with a bear branded data.
